Sunday,7:30 pm

End of the day. We did a lot of walking around today, and got sent to a floor room this afternoon. Much lower staffing ratio here, so it feels a little secluded after the icu where the nurse is always either in the room or right outside the door.

Ed slept more today. He is able to eat soft food but can't manage anything solid..eg, vegetable soup. It hurts his throat too much (from the intubation?), but he did manage a container of ensure. He is still getting some iv fluids. It is still progress and everyone is very encouraging as to how well he is doing. Today he was able for the first time to listen to music with earphones. He finds the slow pace of time passing frustrating. Sort of combined with a sense of , " well, if whole days are going to pass, days that last forever, we should be making more progress.". But yesterday he could not have walked either so frequently or so far, and not independently at all, which he does now, pushing his iv/epidural pole alongside him.

So, progress continues, and i write this as much for him as for you to know, to remember later. I go now back to the strange hotel, and tomorrow morning, I get to take the shuttle bus and will evade the moning walk. And that is okay with me although i am sure i should be getting that exercise. And we will see what the early morning docs have to say about anything.
