This morning around 11, the pain team came in and announced that they were going to stop the epidural. Ed countered that the surgery team in a very early visit today ad said it would not be stopped today. And Ed went on with this discussion to add that he thought he would have to insist that it not be stopped, but that he would consider the question tomorrow morning. I wasn't there when the surgery team rounded this am at 6 or some such time, so i don't know what they said, but i do know that ed is a little fuzzy about not so much what gets said but when it gets said. So maybe the surgeons said that today, or yesterday, or the day before.
A fascinating discussion ensued in which ed insisted on his view of things and the most assertive member of the pain team, a very tall israeli (ie, with an israeli accent) insisted on his and, at one point, said well maybe they would send him home tomorrow, so they had to take it out, at which point i intervened saying that i doubted he would be sent home tomorrow because i would appeal such a decision, and, oh, dear! Finally, the two of them backed down enough with the help of the female pain team member to agree that they wouldnt stop it now and they would talk to the surgery team. And about ten minutes later, they returned with the statement that it was okay with surgery to stop it now, but the pain team would defer to ed's wishes and everybody shook hands and agreed we were all in harmony and it would be stopped in the morning. We probably should have included minimal tax increases as part of the deal.
Watching Ed not be pushed where he doesn't plan to go is always an interesting experience.
And that was the big event of the morning. The nurse says the bilirubin numbers are down, which is good. And it is time to go for another walk.
(understand that i cant edit well or easily because of the ipad/blogspot lack of a decent interface, so sorry for all the typos.)
