Monday Evening

About the end of day 5. Ed got out of bed a lot today, walked around a lot, did some balance and strength exercises, listened to some music on the ipod, and read/looked at new yorker cartoons on the ipad. I read some stuff to him and he could stay with it (he is still on fentanyl so it is a slightly foggy world for him.) More engagement, focus; less feeling of stimulus overload. Still not able to eat much, which means they will reevaluate the epidermal again tomorrow. His oxygen is a little low when he is lying down so he is back on oxygen.

Surgeon park just came in, says it generally looks good, although there is a small rise in bilirubin numbers that they are watching carefully. Another measure of that in the a.m. It is not so much that it is climbing as that it isnt dropping. No sign of infection. Which is good.

Now, gotta go for another walk round the unit before ed goes to sleep and i go home.
