Last night at bedtime, the worst bout of hiccups. And then, they finally settled down and he slept solidly during the night and, in the morning when he awoke around 9, no hiccups for 90 minutes. And then they started again. But then in the mid-afternoon they again disappeared for about 2 hours. The absence, says Ed, makes their presence more tolerable.
Only 2 pain pills today instead of 3. Eating if not more, at least the same. And a friend brought us grapes today, beautiful, wet, fresh grapes with taste, for which we thank both the friend and Chile. And we are thankful for chocolate ice cream, too, of which 2 tablespoons full is enough at the moment and also preceded the second absence of the hiccups. Maybe it's cold sugar that is the cure for hiccups! And the fish soup, and the shrimp quiche squares: more thanks.
And it was sunny. Tonight we watched half of Babette's Feast, which we saw when it was new but which we have both largely forgotten. I remember the end of it, but nothing from the beginning. We watched only half because we have noted (among all the possible correlations and post hoc propter ergo hoc kind of things) that the hiccups are stronger when he has gotten too tired. So, it's an earlier bedtime for him tonight. Also, our neighboring doc checked his lungs with his stethoscope and found them excellent in clearness.
And tomorrow? Well, there's that mountain, I suppose. But I am hoping, along with you and surely with Ed, more than two respites.
