Hospital Post 9

11:30.  Well, now I'm irritated.  After the shift change visit, no one has been near the room except by my dragging them in by pointing out that they didn't bring the food they said they'd bring, or they didn't bring the pain meds at the time they said they would.  I get the logic that Ed doesn't need to be here because they already are dealing with him as if he weren't here.  They say, "well, you tell us whether you want more milk of magnesium'....I ask in what sense is he in a position to know that?  They say, well it might help for the bowel function.  I say, well, then, since that's a big goal, probably he should have it?  Yes, they say, but are never seen again on this topic.   The surgeon should be around in the next hour.  Ed has been up, walking the hallways twice, but unlike yesterday, he asked me to walk with him in case he ran into difficulties.  He's definitely weaker than he was yesterday, although the vitals are still okay.  They've upped him to two percocets each dose.

The nurse just came in and we discussed this and he said that third day weakness is to be expected because all the original pain meds have worn off and the general assault is now being experienced in the weakness.  And he's off to produce some milk of magnesia after I re-introduced this topic.  It would have been nice to have this mentioned a little earlier.  They are pretty lax about keeping you in touch with what's to be expected and what's abnormal.  It's all in their heads, but definitely not in ours.  Sigh.
