Also, he talked with his UW liver surgeon (who continues to follow his case, including in staff conferences with their radiologists) who gave him a much closer reading of the recent CT scan than we got from the B'ham radiologist. The small nodule-cluster on the incision is the main concern. Other previous tumors in the abdomen appear to have shrunk and some may have disappeared. There may be a new one up near the liver, but he is not sure about whether there is actually something there or not. Thus, whereas the radiologist just referred to 'numerous' tumors, Dr. Park (the surgeon) discussed something more like three or perhaps four areas in the omentum with some activity: all but the incisional ones are embedded in the fatty tissue of the omentum and not touching any other organ tissue. He does not recommend any kind of surgical approach to removing these because they are spread about, making it a very major surgical intervention.
Ed had been experiencing some slight but regular pain in the area of the incisional cluster but, after the first irinatecan infusion (2 weeks ago), that pain has gone away. So, it looks good right now; and may it continue! (Today, he goes down for the 2nd irinatecan/avastin infusion.)
